The Diploma, (in combination with the subsequent Advanced Diploma), constitutes a course accredited by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and so fulfils the theory hours (but not clinical hours) element of BACP for individual accreditation.
The Diploma in Psychodynamic Counselling course comprises core theoretical seminars including role-play skills practice and experiential groups. Weekly training sessions consist of one core seminar and one experiential group in Year 1 and one core seminar and one modular seminar in Year 2.
The core seminars are both theory and skills based. Relevant academic papers are discussed as part of a large group and in small groups trainees practice counselling skills, using role-plays and experiential exercises in relation to the overall aims of the course.
Students will work with clients at a placement centre during their studies and we offer guidance and support in finding a clinical placement. You may be placed at one of our five counselling centres or at one of our externally approved counselling agencies.
To apply to start the Diploma course you must have either completed the Foundation Certificate criteria or can demonstrate you have the equivalent qualification from another institution.
We run courses in St Albans and Bedford which start in September each year.
Please note that we are closely monitoring the government’s guidance regarding COVID-19 and there is a chance this course may be delivered online starting in September 2020 and throughout 2020-21 academic year as required. We are excited to embrace this platform and will be also using it to launch our Foundation Certificate and Introduction to Counselling courses as well as our open days via webinar.
We are closely following the BACP guidance and recommendations on this matter. Please check our website for updates, if you are already training with us you will receive communication from our training team but may find this page useful.
