The Countess of Verulam Launches Counsellor Training Centre and Mental Health Forum on Time to Talk DayFebruary 21, 2017 11:25 am
Local mental health charity The Counselling Foundation was joined by their Patron HM Lord Lieutenant of Hertfordshire, Lady Verulam on Time to Talk Day (2 Feb) for the relaunch of their newly refurbished counsellor training centre on Lower Dagnall Street, St Albans.
Mimie Hollist, Training Manager at the Foundation said “we have seen a significant increase for those needing someone to talk to via enquiries for our affordable counselling service. This demand has led to a surge of people wanting to train to become counsellors and this year we have received a record number of students applying for our part time training; from six week Introduction to Counselling courses through to the BACP accredited two year Advanced Diplomas.
“The desire to have a career supporting others is so rewarding and we’re very proud that we’ve been helping people achieve this since 1974.”
Before cutting the ribbon to officially open the training centre, Lady Verulam praised the charity’s commitment to their new project of creating a forum for local third-sector businesses where mental healthcare plays a particular role for service users. ‘Thinking of a way forward with everyone together can only be a good thing. The idea of pulling together is a really excellent one. For the health of the nation help is needed.’
The forum will launch with an event during Mental Health Awareness Week in May to provide a platform to share new initiatives, discuss how to work as a group to promote positive wellbeing across Hertfordshire and plan for partnerships to apply for joint grants.
Robert Cuming, CEO of the Foundation said “any organisation that this appeals to is invited to our think-tank in order to contribute to the improvement of mental healthcare so that we can support as many people as possible in the areas we serve. This is an exciting opportunity to make change happen within our communities.”
