Due to the Government Advice regarding COVID-19, all our counselling services are currently being delivered by telephone or online. Existing clients, and those who have already received an assessment but have not yet started counselling, will be contacted to make the appropriate arrangements in due course. If this applies to you and you have any questions please contact your local centre via the email addresses below.
Any new enquiries for our general counselling service should be sent to your local centre via the email address below. We are currently experiencing high demand and taking longer than usual to reply to enquiries. Thank you for your understanding at this time.
The Foundation is continuing to offer therapeutic help by switching from face-to-face counselling to a phone or a simple to use online webcam or phone camera service until the current emergency is over.
From Monday 23rd March all counselling sessions will be online or over the phone.
Many of our counsellors are already using this as an option to reach harder to see clients and so we will be utilising our already in-house expertise.
As soon as the COVID-19 pandemic is over and it is judged safe to do so, we will re-open our face to face counselling service.
You may be able to access counselling at no cost to you via your GP. Your GP will be able to advise you on what is available to you.
Since April 2012, patients have more choice about which health services they can use within the NHS and can choose from a range of providers all of whom meet NHS standards and quality requirements.
If you are over 16, you can access our counselling service at no cost to you via your GP using a scheme called Any Qualified Provider (AQP) or in most Hertfordshire areas, which gives you up to 8 sessions of 50 minutes with a highly experienced and qualified counsellor.
The Counselling Foundation is a major accredited AQP provider of primary care psychological therapies in Hertfordshire. We have a wide availability of times and locations across the county in our own centres (St Albans, Stevenage and Broxbourne) and GP practices and other locations in Welwyn Garden City, Ware, Hatfield, Borehamwood and Radlett.
The appointments include Saturdays and evenings appointments. We ask our clients when and where they would like to be seen before arranging their appointments.
If you choose us as your AQP Provider please talk to your GP. If your doctor agrees that counselling is suitable for you please ask them to send a referral to The Counselling Foundation.
Bedfordshire (except Luton)
The Counselling Foundation works in partnership with the East London Foundation Trust (ELFT) and the Bedford Wellbeing Service (BWS) to provide counselling for patients registered with a North or Central Bedfordshire-based GP. All referrals are assessed initially by the BWS to ascertain what will be the most suitable service to support you.
You can speak to your GP to arrange a referral or apply online directly through the BWS website https://bedfordshirewellbeingservice.nhs.uk/get-started/
Once we receive a referral from the BWS, an appointment can be arranged for you to attend counselling at our Luton or Bedford Centres, or at one of our other alternative sites spread out throughout the wider Beds area. Eg.Bedford, Newport Pagnall, Milton Keynes, Luton, Dunstable, Ampthill, Biggleswade, Shefford, Letchworth. Whilst we cannot guarantee a specific day and time in a preferred venue, we will do our best to accommodate a patient’s preferences where possible.
