Please note as of Thursday 19th March 2020, we are regrettably not able to take calls or accept new clients for our counselling service. Existing clients, and those who have already received an assessment but have not yet started counselling, will have their sessions either over the telephone or online. This is due to the Government advice given regarding COVID-19 and limiting contact and travel. If that applies to you and you have any questions please email email@example.com
Please check here for future updates as we are working hard to open new enquiries to the public, as and when we can. Thank you for your understanding at this time.
The Counselling Foundation is a major Any Qualified Provider (AQP) of counselling in Hertfordshire and works in partnership with the East London Foundation Trust (ELFT) to deliver NHS counselling services to residents throughout North and Central Bedfordshire (excluding Luton).
We are a trusted partner of the NHS and GP surgeries in Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire, delivering high quality and easy to access short term counselling services.
We follow the IAPT principles of making counselling as accessible as possible to our community and welcome you to refer your patients to our counselling service. Depending on the contract/area we offer up to 6 or 8 sessions of 50 minutes with a qualified and experienced counsellor. We have a wide availability of times and locations across the counties in our own centres, GP Practices and in counsellors’ own private settings. We deliver over 10,000 such sessions a year.
The referral procedure varies for each area and we advise any patients seeking an NHS referral for counselling to speak to their GP (or local Wellbeing Service) about how they are feeling and what treatment options are available to them in their area.
For Herts Valleys Practices the referral pathway is through the DXS system. If this is not available, please send via:
firstname.lastname@example.org or Fax: 0844 7703999
For East and North Herts practices, please make a referral for counselling via Single Point of Access.
For Bedfordshire practices (excluding Luton) referrals must be made via the Bedford Wellbeing Service on 01234 880400. Both GP and self-referral are accepted.
All NHS counselling services for residents based in Luton are now provided by Total Wellbeing Luton. We are no longer able to accept NHS referrals for patients based in Luton.
Ours locations include:
Herts Valleys: St Albans, Harpenden, Chorleywood, Little Bushey, Watford and Borehamwood.
E&NH: Stevenage, Hitchin, Letchworth, Broxbourne, Ware, Hertford, Hoddesdon, Welwyn Garden City, Hatfield and Potters Bar.
Bedfordshire: Bedford, Newport Pagnall, Milton Keynes, Luton, Dunstable, Ampthill, Biggleswade, Shefford, Letchworth
Whilst we cannot guarantee a specific day and time in a preferred venue, we will do our best to accommodate a patient’s preferences where possible. We continue to expand our network of venues so please feel free to contact us for up to date information on where patients can be seen.
Our clients have supported our work with comments such as:
“Thank you, I’ve got me back!”
“Really helped me feel like myself again.”
“I didn’t think counselling was for me. Now I’ve finished I wish I had undergone sessions sooner.”
“It has certainly helped me to understand what I can do for myself first.”
“It has been good to talk to someone each week who just gets it”
“I have a lot of issues and could not have been easy to counsel – (name) was very pleasant and listened to all my problems. Thank you.”
