The Counselling Foundation, with the support of St Albans City and District Council, is offering a free seven-week course to help you build your self-confidence.  You can learn ways to express yourself confidently, boost self-esteem and open doors to the worlds of work, volunteering or community activities.  Foundation course leader Jenny Manfrinati explains that a lack of confidence is often the result of “internalising” experiences or family dynamics.  “We often – wrongly – assume that we are ‘not good enough’ because we cannot fit someone else’s criteria or category,” Jenny said.  “Our idea for this course is to shift the focus from others’ expectations to your individual experiences, expectations and goals.”

The Foundation ran a similar confidence course in Stevenage recently with participants commenting at the end: “I feel very happy within myself”, “I walk with my shoulders back more often” and “It helped me to understand others”.

The Foundation’s CEO Robert Cuming said: “The courses fit in with the work of the Foundation, which is helping people achieve their potential whether it is through affordable counselling, training to be a counsellor or though our campaigns for better awareness of mental  health.

“The courses are part of our ongoing efforts to respond to various needs in the community. For instance, one of our most popular short courses are called Introduction to Counselling which are used by anyone who needs a higher than usual level of interpersonal skills in their work or caring role.”

The first of the St Albans courses runs from Friday 20 January – 3 March 2017   6pm-8pm, in the Foundation’s Training Centre in Lower Dagnall St, St Albans. A second course is planned for later in 2017.

Funding is generously provided St Albans City & District Community Grants Fund which promotes inclusion in the community.

The Foundation asks only for a £5 deposit (refundable on attending 6 sessions).

If you are interested, please apply as soon as possible  – an appointment will be made for you to meet the tutor before the group begins.
