The St Albans Charity Cycle Ride (SACCR) will celebrate its 25th anniversary and the Foundation are proud to be one of the chosen beneficiaries of the 2019 Charity Cycle Ride.  This is an exciting opportunity for the local community to get involved and discover how the Foundation help more people on low incomes access subsidised counselling which coincides with Mental Health Awareness Week.

The Counselling Foundation have seen a huge increase in demand for counselling over the last three years, following awareness through high profile media campaigns.  However, it is increasingly falling to charities like the Foundation to respond to the need and funding is vital to ensure financial help is available to support anyone unable to pay for weekly one to one counselling.

Clients tell us about the difference counselling support makes. We ask them what counselling has enabled them to do and the answers vary from “Drive” to “Survive”, through “Get married and have my first baby”. These are all life-changing or even life-saving things.

There is a strong link between physical and mental health, especially cycling and the SACCR is a great way to promote the benefits of exercise and the positive impact it can have on our mental wellbeing. Exercise stimulates the release of endorphins, our ‘feel good hormones’, which helps to reduce anxiety and stress, helping us to to feel happier.

All funds raised by the entry fees and sponsorship will be distributed equally between the three charities, along with The Counselling Foundation these will be Alzheimers Research UK and Secondary First (Cancer Research).

We’re looking for support:

It’s a fun event for all the family to come along and enjoy as a cyclist, spectator, helper as a marshal.  In 2018 the cycle ride attracted around 1200 cyclists, with 600 additional people volunteering on the day.

  • Cycle either 10, 20, 30, and 40-mile routes through beautiful Hertfordshire countryside
  • Free T-shirt, medal and certificate guaranteed for all pre-registered riders completing the course
  • Helping on the day to register cyclists, marshal stands and the Foundation awareness tent
  • Supporters to cheer and spur on cyclists
