Pam has worked part time in training at The Counselling Foundation for 18 years. She originally trained as a social worker and then took further training at the Tavistock Clinic, London. Her early career was spent in child and family psychiatry until 1989 when she moved to work in palliative care and to teach part time at Middlesex University.
Pam has held several senior positions in Hospices and was a director of the European Association of Palliative Care for 8 years lecturing widely nationally and internationally. Her published works include an edited text book, many book chapters and academic papers focussing on the family adaptation to serious illness and bereavement. She is currently part of a research team at Southampton University looking at the needs of family carers. Her three year EU appointment, to develop psychosocial palliative care in the Republic of Serbia, ended a year ago but she retains strong links with colleagues in Central and Eastern Europe.
